A Vision for the Capital at Night: The NCC's Illumination Plan

The presentation will outline the the NCC’s in progress Capital Illumination Plan, an initiative that sets out as a goal the creation of a cohesive vision for Canada’s capital by night. The plan will be delivered in 2017 in recognition of the 150th Anniversary of Confederation. 

The NCC, working with a consultants  Alain Guilhot of Lyon, France and Canadian consultants Lumipraxis and the MMM group, has partnered with the Cities of Ottawa and Gatineau to deliver this plan. The study area encompasses the core of the Capital. Challenges include addressing interests of both cities and public and private sector stakeholders.

Senior Architect, National Capital Commission

Christopher Hoyt is a US and Canadian architect who has served as a lead designer at nationally recognized architecture firms in the US and Canada and is currently involved in urban design projects and federal approvals as Senior Architect at the National Capital Commission in Ottawa. Chris has taught urban design and architecture at universities in the US and Canada.

Sophie Acheson, MCIP

Senior Planner, National Capital Commission

Sophie Acheson is an urban planner based in Ottawa. She has over 10 years of experience in different facets of planning, including private-sector development consulting, development approvals at the federal level, and long-range policy planning at the municipal and federal levels.

She is currently the Senior Municipal Coordinator at the National Capital Commission.
