Two Architects and Their Own Homes: Built to Serve Health and Ecology for the Next 150

Why on earth would two architects, educated to be good modernists, choose to build their own homes out of earth? In this presentation, architects Paula Baker-Laporte, FAIA from Oregon and Bobby Ilg, OAA, MRAIC from Ottawa will explain the science behind natural building and share why they both concluded that building out of age-old, low-tech materials presents one of the most viable solutions today for achieving optimal health and ecological performance. They will also explain how they worked with building officials to accept this outside-the-box solution, documenting the process and showing their finished homes.
