Kick off the Festival on Wednesday, May 24th at the Opening Party starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Canadian War Museum in the LeBreton Gallery. There you will enjoy sponsored food and drink stations, and be entertained in an expansive open storage space that enables a close-up look at large artifacts such as aircraft, tanks and artillery pieces. The museum, designed by Moriyama & Teshima Architects in joint venture with GRC Architects, is dedicated to the remembrance of Canada’s military history and also demonstrates a commitment to environmental sustainability. The Museum’s architectural theme, as reflected in its design, is regeneration.

The luncheon, Thursday, May 25th at noon, with keynote speaker architect Johan van Lierop of Studio Libeskind promises to be one of the highlights of the conference.

The RAIC Fellows Convocation Thursday, May 25th starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum of History where the College of Fellows formally recognizes members and distinguished laypersons who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. The ceremony also recognizes graduates of the RAIC Syllabus program.

Ramp up the celebration on Friday, May 26th at the joint OAA/RAIC recognition lunch where service and recognition honours  will be presented to respective members. In addition, Concepts and Landmark structures will be celebrated. The OAAAS will also present its student award winners.

New for 2017! The Friday morning plenary session May 26th will be a highly attended event bringing together delegates for an eye-opening presentation by Architecture 2030 founder Edward Mazria. He’ll talk about climate change and the powerful role architects and planners can play in addressing it through the design of the built environment. 

The Gold Medal is the RAIC’s highest honour and is bestowed in recognition of a significant and lasting contribution to Canadian architecture. On Thursday, May 25th attend this plenary session starting at 8:30 a.m. and take in the 2017 Gold Medalist keynote address.

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s first ever International Indigenous Architecture and Design Symposium takes place in Ottawa on Saturday, May 27, 2017. 

The symposium promises to be an exceptional occasion with an estimated 120 delegates, including international and Canadian Indigenous architects, allied design and building professionals, students, and interns. Representatives of business, media, academia and government will also gather at the Wabano Centre.  Designed by Indigenous architect Douglas Cardinal, the building is a beautiful and culturally expressive place to experience this ground-breaking event.
