On the subject of architecture competitions, this session offers a comprehensive and reflective survey of the history, stakes and debates both in Canada and globally. Browsing through the unique resources of the Canadian Competitions Catalogue (www.ccc.umontreal.ca ), this introduction is offered by scholars from both Université de Montréal (Jean-Pierre Chupin) and Concordia University (Carmela Cucuzzella) who direct research chairs exploring competitions and awards in architecture. Participants will be invited to question the benefits and the confines of different forms of competitions in the production of culture, quality and knowledge.
