If architecture is “the play of masses brought together by light”, (Le Corbusier, 1923), it follows that the perception of form shifts, with changing light. Through a series of case studies and a deconstructed look at the components of dynamic lighting systems, this seminar aims to demystify interactive programmable lighting systems. We aim to provoke a discussion of how architecture can emphasize identity in an increasingly mediatized and illuminated built environment. We will look at the role of the architect in shaping this environment and reflect upon the relationship of content vs. medium, both in heritage and new construction.
