The drive toward high performance buildings by Energy Codes and green certification programs has resulted in the imperative that design must adapt to new paradigms of higher energy efficiency and improved indoor environmental quality. Europe has been operating under these standards for decades and have created better mechanical systems to adapt, but the use of these system does affect the aesthetics of the buildings we design. This session will review the application of European based HVAC systems in the North American context by outlining the technologies and demonstrating by example how they have been creatively applied within the context of modern design.
