This course will provide the participants with an introduction to 3D terrestrial laser scanning and its applications within the practice of architecture. Specific topics will include an overview of available hardware and software and a review of current applications within the practice of architecture. We will also discuss innovative scenarios for novel applications of laser scanning. A selection of case studies demonstrating both the value-added by and the limitations of scanning will used to illustrate the topics of study. The presentation will also examine the limits of digital data acquisition and the translation of that data into models and drawings, and reflect on the future of laser scanning in architecture.
